Prof. Sonam Gawde
As a kid I remember her getting up early every morning, cooking delicious food for the family, helping me with my home-work and assignments, making me ready for school - undoubtedly, she’s my first teacher. Today, the Management concepts taught in B-schools go beyond the classrooms. So, why not learn them from the one with whom we can associate our most ‘firsts’ of life?
Yes, Mamma; that’s what I lovingly call her is the most important person in my life and my very own Management Guru. As I go through the corporate concepts and management jargons, I can relate to how amazingly and efficiently a Mother manages everything that comes in her way with a bright smile on her face.
My mother is a housewife by profession with an experience of more than three decades. By now she has mastered the skills of co-coordinating many aspects revolving around our home. This includes not just taking care of the house but also efficiently running the house within a specified budget. Her multitasking has always amazed me i.e. she can handle finances, inventory, purchases, be a wonderful leader and much more.
Mamma also taught me the importance of money management right from my early age by sending me to the market to make a few purchases for the house. After returning back home, she would ask me many questions about purchases and the reasoning behind selecting and paying for the things I’d bought like how many shops I visited, did I negotiate on the price, how is the quality of the things I bought etc. This taught me purchasing skills and I still ask myself a set of these questions prior to making any purchases till date.
On the other hand, her selfless devotion, boundless patience, guidance, values, and unconditional love has comforted, healed, and strengthened me through the ups and downs of life. Mamma, has taught me to always try my best and not to give up when things get hard. Another most important lesson I’ve learnt from my mother is not to fall into the trap by looking merely at the surface of people, things, and ideas without taking the time and effort to explore deeper into them. She tells me to be honest in every walk of life because in the end, a lie always hurts more. She has taught me right from wrong and the difference between self-respect and ego.
I would like to conclude by dedicating this post to all those amazing mothers who turn our houses into beautiful homes and for them to know that their efforts are highly appreciated by all of us!
It is said that management skills go beyond what you are taught in the B-schools. So, why not learn them from the one with whom we can associate the most ‘firsts’ of our life? Yes, Mamma, as I call her is the epitome of a complete Management Guru.
